I needed a soft push to jump from CC BY to releasing “AKWF Waveforms” into the public domain. The push was to be able to be a part of Sonic Pi. A free live coding synth for everyone originally designed to support computing and music lessons within schools. Apart from being a very nice project for music education I also think that programming is best discovered and learnt while playing and trying to express yourself.

So yeah, the AKWF Waveform pack is now public domain which means it can be bundled into software and distributed in any way possible. It will be interesting what this will mean other than some kids will get to experiment with sounds on the Raspberry Pi. It was also much scarier than I thought to let go of all control over the AKWF Waveforms. I have spent A LOT of time recording, editing these.

Now they are yours. Take good care of them.

You can check out the the Sonic Pi live coding synth at the project’s website.

You find the AKWF Waveforms over here.
